Vincent Van Gogh Pictures

Self Portrait W Straw Hat Paris 1887

Talking about Vincent Van Gogh pictures could be too extensive, considering that he painted over 600 pictures in his short life.
Every single picture expresses the emotional state of the artist in the particular moment of his life. So, at the beginning at his life as an artist, we see more realist dark colours in his paintings, like the famous Potato Eaters, painted in the period of Realism of Van Gogh. He was obviously influenced by the great Dutch painters like Rembrandt and Millet, at that time.

After he moves to Paris and gets in contact with the Impressionists, Van Gogh introduced colours and different techniques to his pictures, moving one step closer to his very own vanguardist style. He was much happier in Paris, and that emotional feelings are reflected in the bright colours of his Sunflowers and the beautiful landscapes of Montmatre and the outsides of Paris.

In Paris, Van Gogh makes good friends with Toulousse-Latrec, Paul Gaugin and many other Impressionist painters. He left and moved to Arles where he wanted to have the Studio of the South, a community of artists working and living together in the Yellow House he rented for that purpose. But, he never completed his dream of having Studio of the South working and making good money for the artists. Paul Gaugin went to live with him in Arles for 9 weeks and did not want that to happened, he didn't think it would be a good idea. In this period Van Gogh painted The Chair, His bedroom at Arles, The Yellow House and many beautiful landscapes of the surroundings.

After the incident in Arles, where Gaugin and Van Gogh had a terrible argument, Vincent loses his ear. The neighbours of the Yellow House in Arles, wanted him to leave, so he decided to go to Saint-Remy, to a menthal hospital. He panited there the very famous Starry Night, and many different pictures from the Hospital and the surroundings.

Once he was feeling better, he moved to Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris, where he was attended by Dr. Gachet, he got very close to him and his family. When everything started looking rosy in Vincent's life, he killed himself.
